foreign phones in Sweden

Hi,

I'm living in Sweden now, in need of a new phone. After checking the equipment prices and rate plans, I've decided to purchase an unlocked phone from abroad (ebay, probably) and use it here. I have a basic phone right now with Tre.

Are there any issues of which I should be aware? Can I just buy an unlocked Android phone and put my sim card in it and off I go?

Many people in here buy for example Hero's from germany and then insert their swedish simcard and start calling. So yeah

 

are you happy with your Hero?

I only need it to surf the web and check mail, maybe watch a video on the train, or play some tunes.

Oh, and, where are the bargains in Deutschland?

 

Make sure that you have atleast 200-1000mb of paid/free data traffic though. Otherwise it will be very expensive.

i bought my Hero from http://www.handtec.co.uk a UK based shop, and i can recomend that one, did buy it on a friday, got the phone on tuesday, to a very good price

Ah yes, I agree for sure. We are a bit higher than the average joe on the evolution ladder...

 

Get a phone with 3G, most of the phone have 3G but just wanted to let you know that you need 3G to be able to use your Tre simcard.

Maybe we are more intelligent than most countries but we have absolutely no morality here.

Not talking about the church morality or anything (please, by all means, be homosexual... I love angry christian people), but you're veeeeery lucky if you get your lost wallet back here with all of the content remaining and still intact.

But let's not get off topic: I haven't heard of any foreign phone that wouldn't work in sweden.

I'm not an expert, but I believe the gsm and 3g networks are standardized and that phones who follow and implement these standards should work in any country with gsm and 3g networks if you only have a sim-card for a local operator. Some operators cooperate so you can use your tre or telia phone in Denmark for example.

 

I was very impressed with how people find things and hang them up here... a cap, keys, lost gloves, etc., and the multi-knife I forgot at the recycling center (on top of the newspaper bin) was still there several hours later. However, I did have my bicycle stolen from outside my suburban home .... There's good and bad everywhere but it's more honest here than anywhere I've ever lived, which is nice!

I'd say there are a good set of common cultural mores here.

I'll probably get a Hero, so no network problems, and I mostly use Wifi so no bandwidth issues, either.

Note: for the record.. the last year i have found two wallets containing cash, credit cards etc and called up both owners and returned them untouched...

That would do just fine as long as you don't mind the T-mobile sticker in the front . GSM-900 and 1800 are the cellular bands used in Europe (Sweden).

if you already have a swedsih simcard, go on, just take care it is unlocked

 

I always use a Sony Ericsson or borrow from my girlfriend, they are good to use in Sweden. Cheap prepaid cash SIM cards are no pro]blem to find in Sweden!
