VMware vill ge mobiltelefonanvändare möjlighet att köra två OS samtidigt

VMware som är kända för sina virtualiseringslösningar vill ge sig in på mobiltelefonmarknaden med inriktning på smartphones, detta enligt Computerworld Australia vilka haft en pratstund med Srinivas Krishnamurti, mobilchef på VMware.

Krishnamurti säger bland annat att bara en dual boot-lösning inte är bra nog, han vill att man parallellt skall köra två operativsystem mellan vilka man kan växla i en knapptryckning. Vidare skall användaren kunna ta emot och ringa samtal oavsett vilket operativsystem han för stunden befinner sig i.

We don’t think dual booting will be good enough – we’ll allow you to run both profiles at the same time and be able to switch between them by clicking a button. You’ll be able to get and make calls in either profile – work or home – as they will both be live at any given point in time.

Varför VMware valt att satsa på Smartphone-marknaden förklarar Krishnmurti så här:

Employees are saying they already have a cool phone, and they don’t want to carry a second one, so they get the choice of whatever device they want rather than the one the corporation has picked for them. Also CIOs are saying they are spending a lot of money on buying end-points be they PCs or smart phones; if we can get out of buying these endpoints then it will save us a lot of management time and money.

VMware visade redan i februari månad en tidig version av det hela på en Nokia N800 (bilden ovan) med Android bredvid Windows CE (video här) och det hela såg ut att fungera bra. Tror ni att det finns någon marknad för det här?
