Play video from SMB share over WIFI.

Has anyone managed to directly play a video from a SMB share on a network.
I would like to be able to play videos directly on the SGS without having to copy the files to my phones internal or external SD card.

Have tired various tools but not managed yet.

I dont want to use ORB or such programs. I just want the pohne to handle the file is if it where a local video file.

 

I tried playing a file with "minidlna" installed on my linux box using the "AllShare" . It worked flawlessly. But that might not be what you're after ?

 

Allshare and WMC worked for me, but this might not be what you looking for either?

 

File Expert claims to support this feature. Haven't been successfull in getting it to work myself, though.

Although you still have to do some hands on for each file ...

I want to play a network shared video file as if it where stored on the phone itself.
Just browsing the shared directories using the WIFI in my appartment.

 

I have WD TV Live with DLNA enabled and want to do the same thing as you but my SGS couldn't find it. The same is with SBMC and Plex. It must be something with samsungs implementation of the DLNA share which causing this malfunction.

Anybody with some solution here ?

 

I just tried file expert. All it does its first copy the file to a local memory and then play it. There's no streaming involved as far as I could see. And it doesn't support mkv or music playlists.

The search goes on..

I've been unable to get allshare to find any of my DLNA-servers, otherwise it seems like it could do what we're after.

I only want to play a video file from a network drive the same way i can on my laptop.
Dont think i am talking dlna.
