Really! Is it a must you root your phone?

I have been reading a lot about this rooting of the phone just so you can install a fix that will get rid of all the so-called Lag issue. Now, I really like to know why it is a MUST to root your phone just to increase the speed? I do not get it. Aren't there available programs in the market, to shut down unwanted programs? Like Task killer etc. BTW, is this the best program for this issue?

I have ordered a Samsung Galaxy S and hopefully I will be getting it soon. But it worries me that the first thing I have to do is 'Root' my phone because of programs running in the background? Does not sound too logical to me. Has everyone rooted this phone upon receiving it?

Samsung is coming out with a new firmware or update next month, so is it really necessary that I start messing up my phone for something that will be officially available to the public?

Is this lag on every single new Samsung Galaxy S phone on the market?

Of course not.. you don't have to do anything to the phone if you already are satisfied. The official update will be available someday and will not require root.

However, some people seem to enjoy "fixing" the phone. Im not one of them as i feel the phone should be working as i want it to from stock. So i have not yet rooted my phone or done any other fixes even though im not 100% pleased.

Im waiting for the official update, after that i will root and tweak i think. I don't wanna do it more than once.. :P

rooting is primarily useful in only one way regarding us swedes... to be able to pay for apps... Since we don't have the full market, thus only getting the free ad-supported (in many cases) versions.. when rooting the phone, you can use an app that tricks the market that my SIM-card is in fact a german, US or dutch one, and therefore letting me buy apps.. another thing is custom Roms... but if you are happy with the phone by stock, then there is no reason to load a custom rom.. my x10 don't even have a custom rom yet, so i rooted it only for the pay-market. Oh.. and rooting also gives you the possibility to remove apps either installed by the manufacturer or if you have a branded phone and don't want your providers pre-installed apps

Interesting Delofson. Thanks for that. So if Sweden does not have a paid market, will there be one soon? I also think it is kind of rediculous that one cannot buy an ad-free app else where without submitting to rooting. So when I do get my SGS, I have to root just to buy an app that is ad-free? Doesn't make sense. Thanks for answering my questions.

Thanks for the responses guys but again, if I am paying for a product why do I get the ad with the product? Doesn't make sense. It's like I am paying for a product so they can put ad into the finish product?? Very strange. Then when I want to buy an app I have to root my phone or add some other emulator just so I can buy an app, to use it. what's the point of the phone in the first place? I see why apple is so popular ;)

    Thanks anyway guys. Much appreciated.

Or just order a US sim-card, and put it in when you want to get pay apps.

when you pay for the apps you usually dont get any ads at all (I have never seen one anyways), but thats often the way araound you can choose to use the ad-version or buy the real without ads.

Yea its kind of bad that google dont aloow all to buy from market.

The phone itself works great and u can get apps that is not approved by google, so u can download apps from internet and install on your phone, that u could not do with ipone (without jailbreak)

Thanks Fizzy. I understand a bit better now. That's a plus for the SGS over the Iphone, which I do not intend on ever getting. :) good to hear you can still install app with rooting the phone. I want to wait until the official firware or update is release. See if it will fix all the major issues with SGS. Thank you again for your time.

I just got my phone and I must say that it is the best phone I have spent on a mobile phone. I am not going to go through and a explain but only say that I will definitely not be rooting my phone as I am happy the way it is right now. Performance seems very fast for me. Although I have not tested the GPS, only hoping that Samsung official update will fix the problems people are facing. I am not a big GPS user so it will not bother me too much.
Have to explore the SGS more...:)
