On another forum, a user asked sony about replacing the screen protector, and it seems that Sony's view, is the warranty will be void because it is possible to damage the waterproof seals during removal, not saying that you will, but just that it is possible.
Reply From Sony ;
"Based on the information provided we can confrim that this handset does have a durable tempered glass display which is indeed "scratch resistant".
Sony Xperia handsets also do come with a plastic "shatter proof" sheet which applied over top of this display.
This is applied for the reason being that if the display is damaged in anyway it will keep any broken glass securely in place.
This plastic sheet can be removed however we do strongly recommend if you are wanting to do this that you have it sent through to an authorized repair location to be done by a service agent.
As it does require quite some force it may damage the water resistant seals therefore this would void the 12 month manufacturing warranty."
now for me, this is not really a deal breaker, its more the other warranty issues that the z1 has, with the screen not responding, chassis bending, poor camera optimization etc.. I really hate the idea of having to actually send away a phone for weeks to get it repaired..
It could just be a symptom of an awesome product though, I have loads of sony at home, even a tv with triluminous for gaming, and I do appreciate that when people pay for a performance product, their expectations do tend to be a little high sometimes. I just wondered if I was alone in my concern.
