Androidchefen Sundar Pichai har i intervju meddelat att Wear kommer få stöd för GPS. Det innebär att smartklockor som kör operativsystemet kommer kunna utnyttja GPS för självständig navigering, förutsatt att hårdvaran stödjer det.

Eventuellt kan befintliga Android Wear-enheter, som LG G Watch och Gear Live, således få GPS-funktionalitet eftersom de utrustats med Qualcomm Snapdragon 400. Chippet har nämligen integrerad GPS i standardutförande, även om det inte garanterar att smartklockorna kommer få egen navigering framöver.

Pichai berättar även att Android Wear-enheter kommer bli kompatibla med andra enheter som bärs på kroppen, som exempelvis Bluetooth-headset.

Alongside that, we’re introducing GPS support for the platform. So that’s obviously only for devices that have the GPS hardware. But we’re excited about those two features together because it unlocks a whole set of new use cases.
